Report Discussion on State level karam festival
President Mr. Wilfred Topno proposed for an informal discussion since the participants were less in number. Vice president Mr. Ghana kanta orang opined that to preserve our identity we have to conserve our language& culture. We also need to be proud of what we have. Therefore, there is need to celebrate karam festival and that’s why this is, though an informal but an important meeting. He also informed that 2nd conference of Adivasi sahitya sabha is going to be held at Nagaon district and a constant communication is kept with the members there. Taking part in the open discussion Mr. Stanish Soreng said that we must open up to all Adivasi language groups for promotion of their languages. This is not a time for standardization. He also added that almost all the tribes of ours which are living in Assam have same character and call themselves as Adivasi. We have to open up for them. Mr. Godfrey Here suggested that secretary and president should keep in touch with all the Sabhas among Adivasis such as the Santali Sahitya Sabha, Munda, Sabha, Kurux Sabha and so on. The president, Mr. Topno spoke on the urgent need to document and keep data like name and addresses of different Sabhas. Added to this the importance of making publicity was felt by the members. The news of karam should go in the editorial pages of the news papers they said. A suggestion came from Mr. Ghana Kanta Orang that SS should talk within July with the government of Assam, particularly with the Chief Minister with regard to promotion of our language and culture. The Group finally proposed that the Karam Parab be held at Tezpur (church field and District library).
